Photo imaging

Photo Imaging Apprenticeships

In addition to giving you employment, the Advanced Apprenticeship in Photo Imaging also provides you with a qualification.

This leaves you with a better understanding of the Photo Imaging industry and a qualification that employers will value. The qualification part of the Apprenticeship is run by a training provider - such as a local college - which will work with you and your employer to tailor the Apprenticeship to your needs and company's needs.

So, the Apprenticeship involves an on the job part where you learn on the job, and an off the job part where you study with the training provider:

On the job
The Apprenticeship offers a range of different units, giving your employers the flexibility to tailor your on the job learning to the job role they give you, including ones covering photography, digital imaging and photo retail.

Examples of what you might learn in these units include:

  • Agree the Photo Imaging Brief
  • Undertake photographic assignments
  • Colour management procedures
  • Using minilab equipment
  • Technical adjustment of images
  • Image cataloguing
  • Edit audio visual material
  • Maximise retail product sales
  • Freelance working
  • Legal and ethical

Off the job
The off the job learning takes place in an academic setting such as a college or other training provider. The knowledge you can learn includes:

  • Photo Image capture and presentation
  • Specialist photography and presentation
  • Specialist photography and image output
  • Image capture and manipulation
  • Principles of Crime Scene Investigation photography
  • Image management and storage

The timetable for when this training takes place will be agreed between you, your employer and the training provider.

You'll also learn important skills useful in any job such as communication, teamwork, and health and safety. This is all part of helping you become a well-rounded employee, with the knowledge, skills and experience that employers will want you to have.
