July 2010
The following topics were discussed:
Skillset Research programme 2010
The response rate to the employers and workforce surveys was analysed and the group agreed to help further promote the link to the survey through their newsletters and publications. A discussion followed regarding the benefits to the sector of participation, e.g. identification of primary skills issues, informing the development of courses, support for existing schemes and provision of an evidence base for funding bids.
NVQ and Apprenticeship update
The group was advised that the current suite of Photo Imaging NVQs has been reviewed and updated and that the Photo Imaging apprenticeship is being redeveloped to broaden its appeal to employers throughout the sector. A number of opportunities for take up within the sector were identified, these included roles within photo retail, digital imaging technicians and schools and cruise ship photography.
Media Academies - relicensing
The group were briefed on the plans to integrate photo imaging courses into the network offer. A discussion followed about key themes that should be integral to practice based courses in order for graduates to leave with the skills and attributes needed by the sector.
Media Academies - Build Your Own MA (BYOMA)
The group had received a written update on the BYOMA scheme and a discussion took place regarding areas for course development and suggestions as to how courses could be shaped to make them attractive to the photo imaging community.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 2010.
