Creative Skillset Cymru Freelance funds - Are you eligible?

Creative Skillset Cymru Freelance funds are grants of 80% towards the cost of a course, up to a maximum limit of £800 for you to spend on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training within priority areas. You must be working in the Welsh TV industry or in the wider creative media industries in Wales on TV projects in a cross-platform context.

It is vital that you read the eligibility guidelines before applying. Your application will not be successful if you do not demonstrate that you meet all the eligibility criteria.

We will only fund training in certain priority skills - please download and read the guidelines for details.

Below is an overview of the main eligibility criteria, so that you can quickly check whether you have the necessary experience before downloading the guidelines to read further.


Are you eligible?

You can apply for this funding if you:

  • Can demonstrate professional experience in the Welsh TV industry;
  • Or can demonstrate professional experience in the wider creative media industries and can show that your training will lead to work in or with the TV industry in a cross-platform context;
  • Can indicate in your application, if you're returning to work after a career break, how this training is essential to your employability;
  • Can demonstrate how the training you are applying for will benefit your career;
  • Are resident in Wales and regularly working within Wales or the UK as a freelancer;
  • Are living in the Wales at the time of applying for a bursary;
  • Have selected and paid for a training course and have been accepted by the training provider;
  • Are not receiving another form of Creative Skillset subsidy to attend the training.

and the course you want to attend:

  • Starts no earlier than 1 day after the date your application is received by Skillset.

You cannot apply for Creative Skillset Cymru Freelance funding if you:

  • Are in full time education;
  • Are not living in Wales;
  • Are an actor or presenter;
  • Cannot demonstrate clear professional experience working in the TV industry or wider creative media industries that shows you are regularly working within this sector as a freelancer or an employee.  Please note: that work undertaken at school, on training courses or in education will not be considered professional experience; or
  • Are applying on behalf of an organisation.
