Weapons on Set Training at Pinewood Studios
Production Guild in association with Talking Point is delivering the latest seminar in its Weapons on Set Initiative at Theatre 7 at Pinewood Studios on Friday, 22nd of January 2010.
This training is supported by Skillset Film Skills Fund and the cost per person is £40. This includes a buffet lunch and a networking event
The day-long seminar has been designed to uplift Film and TV practitioners' knowledge and understanding on current legislation, practice and compliance on the safe use of weapons during filming.
David Martin, Chief Executive of the Production Guild said,
This whole initiative began some 18 months ago, when the Guild was made aware that there had been some very close calls with SO19 Armed Response Teams being called out in response to reports from the public of guns being used in the Capital. It turned out the weapons were being used in filming - and that both professional and student film-makers had been very close to taking their last breaths."
The Film Industry Safety Group then took a closer look at this issue in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Armourers, SFX, Props and Line Producers/Production Managers and it became clear that there was a lack of knowledge and certainty across the low to medium budget levels as to how production should deal with weapons and be compliant with the legislation.
The "Weapons On Set" Initiative has been funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund as being the industry's response to this issue. The day event will bring together a panel of leading production personnel, armourers and the Metropolitan Police to discuss and review the current legal framework and highlight best practice issues when weapons are being considered from the earliest stage of production through to principal photography.
Helen Johnson of Talking Point said,
"The event has already been run in Edinburgh and Glasgow to great acclaim from practitioners. The Weapons on Set Event at Pinewood Studios is of key interest to production office, floor and location grades, SFX and Props, and professional and student film-makers alike."
